Lapins was developed by KO Lapins and WD Lane in Summerland Canada in 1983. The fruit's skin is dark red to mahogany at maturity and the flesh is red, firm and juicy. It is a self fertile variety and does not need to be cross pollinated, but is useful for cross pollinating other varieties. Fruit matures later than most other cherries. Fruit tends to bear on young wood and rejuvination pruning is required to maintain yields.
